When our Lord Jesus Christ acknowledged in John 4: 44 that a prophet has no honour at home, the likes of Sir Mac Atasie was not born then and our changing world of innovations, creative thinkers and harbingers of ideas were not yet born.
Christ himself must have said those words to bring out the potentials in us to be so honoured at home as we live in an ever changing world – here comes the digital age.
Like Sir Mac Atasie would always say, creative Innovations and ideas are the catalyst that can drive economic development in Nigeria and the quest for these innovative ideas was what made Gov. Willie Obiano to drag Sir Mac Atasie to Anambra State when he was elected the Governor of the state to help change their narrative in Internally Generated Revenue ( IGR) and develop other economic indices that could help the state.
On Wednesday, March 10, 2022, the out going Governor of Anambra state looked back at his achievements in office and singled out Abia state born financial czar, Sir Mac Atasie as that man that helped him grew the economy of Anambra state and decorated him with an award of honour as ” Distinguished Anambra State Commander ” in appreciation and recognition of the positive roles Sir Mac Atasie played that has helped the overall development of Anambra state.
The event took place inside the newly constructed 10, 000 capacity ultra – modern international conference centre, constructed by Gov. Willie Obiano administration.
Gov. Willie Obiano described Sir Mac Atasie as one of the pillars of his administration, though he is not from Anambra and thanked him for his numerous assistance in helping him improve the economy of Anambra using ICT driven technology.
Other notable personalities honoured by the Anambra state Government led by Gov. Willie Obiano include the former General Secretary of Common Wealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Governor of Anambra State, Sir Peter Obi, Chief Allen Onyema ( CEO, Airpeace ), Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe ( Obi of Onitsha), Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, Chief Innocent Chukuma( CEO, Innoson Motors), Chief Cosmos Maduka ( Coscharis), Sir Ozonkpo Victor Oye ( APGA, National Chairman), Sen. Victor Umeh ( APGA LEADER) amongst other.
In his response, Sir Mac Atasie, thanked Gov. Willie Obiano for believing in him and praused Anambra people for providing an enabling environment that helped him achieve the much he did, describing Anambra state as his home, while thanking God for the gift of ideas and using same to serve humanity.
The high point of the ceremony was the unvelling of a book ” AKPOKUEDIKE” which chronicles some of the achievements of Gov. Willie Obiano.
