Johnson Onuigbo Abia PDP State Chairman

The heat turns against State Chairman, Johnson Onuigbo ! These are not the best of times for the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia state as the party prepares for the forth coming party congresses that is billed to produce the executives of the party at all levels. And for some time, there has been alignment and realignment of party faithful and chieftains as various camps, calculations and manipulations have emerged that may see some shock changes. Trust politicians and this their game, tagged “Game of interest”. Some well know politicians in Abia are now holding meetings with their perceived enemy camps in a decoy for loyalty that does not exist. There are efforts to return most, if not all the party executives from the ward to Local Governments. But, the epic battle will be at the state Executive council of the party. The current state Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Johnson Onuigbo who is bent on returning as the Chairman will have an uphill task, retaining his position if feelers by newsmirrorng.com is anything to go bye. Recall that few years back, more than 70% of the state Executive signed a petition against Chief Onuigbo, accusing him of many atrocities and high handedness. He was said not to be a party man, rather a structure man. Whatever that one means but he survived by the whiskers after Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu intervened. Most people that participated in past Local Government elections in 2016 and the 2019 general elections have tale of woes as they accused the Johnson Onuigbo led Executive of bleeding financial life out of them even before the various primary elections. They also cite part of Chief Onuigbo’s problem is not taking the warfare of party executives across the state serious. However, the greatest challenge for Chief Johnson Onuigbo is the claim by Abia South Senatorial district of the state, which also falls within the Ukwa Ngwa zone that since the formation of PDP in 1998, no person from Ukwa Ngwa zone that occupy 9 out of the 17 LGAs of the state has even been the Chairman of the party. Again in senatorial calculation, they allege that both Abia North and Central senatorial zones have had a fair share and that is only right that the party allow Abia South Senatorial zone to produce the state Chairman of the party. For example, the first PDP State Chairman was Chief Tony Ukasonya, from Umuahia South (Abia Central). Other Chairmen, even on elected or interim bases are :- Arc. Benson Ezem (Umuahia South, Abia Central), Dr. Rex Otuka (Umuahia North, Abia Central), the incumbent Chief Johnson Onuigbo ( Umuahia North, Abia Central), Chief Alfredo Awah (Arochukwu, Abia North), Chief Ndidi Okereke, Umunneochi, Abia North), Sen. Emma Nwaka, Isuikwuato,Abia North). It is believed in many quarters that this agitation is legitimate and an idea whose time has come. Already, four people have indicated their interest from Abia South Senatorial zone for this epic battle for the soul of Abia PDP.
