Ahead 2023: Ukwa Ngwa Sociocultural groups in Lagos declares support for Prof. Uche Ikonne for Abia Governor

The People’s Democratic Party ( PDP) Governorship Candidate, Prof Eleazar Uche Ikonne has continued to receive massive support and endorsement by Stakeholder groups and individuals within and outside Abia state.


The Ngwa Social Club in lagos today Sunday December 4th anchored the 3rd Summit of all Ukwa Ngwa SOCIOCULTURAL GROUPS in lagos at the Police College Ground, Ikeja.

The high profile and well attended summit which had His Excellency, Elder Dr Okezie Ikpeazu in attendance, endorsed the PDP Governorship candidate Prof Eleazar Uche Ikonne as the candidate of the Ukwa Ngwa nation for the governorship of Abia State in 2023.


Prof. Ikonne was represented by Rt Hon Uzo Azubuike (Ijiriji Aba Ngwa) and Chief Ibe Nwadioha at the grand and colourful occasion which displayed Ukwa Ngwa cultural dances, Iru Mgbede and other displays.

Leading the resolution the Chairman BOT of Ngwa Social Club and the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Orjinta Alala declared that having assessed all the candidates for the governorship of Abia state in the 2023 election, all Ukwa Ngwa people in Lagos have come to the decision to adopt and endorse Prof Uche Ikonne as their sole candidate.

The Summit also endorsed His Excellency Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for the senatorial seat of Abia South.

Earlier in his keynote address, the President of Ngwa Social Club Lagos, Elder Prof. Paul Ananaba, ( SAN )described Prof. Ikonne and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as worthy Ukwa Ngwa sons who have always delivered on their previous assignments and responsibilities.

Prof. Ananaba said that Prof. Uche Ikonne as Vice Chancellor of Abia State University and Rector of Abia State Polytechnic excelled in his duties and made the Ukwa Ngwa people and entire Abia State proud.

He called on the Summit and entire Ukwa Ngwa people not to be distracted by personal and individual ambitions but focus on the collective interest of Abia people declaring that Prof Ikonne is the best for Abia State in 2023.

In his address, the Governor summarised his achievements especially in ensuring Security, Infrastructural development, equity and balance in Abia state.

Gov. Ikpeazu declared that the equity of this time demand that a competent Abia man from Isialangwa part of Abia Central should be the Governor after which power should move back to Abia North.

He stated that the composition of Abia Central with equal strengths of Old Bende and Old Aba Division puts Abia on four legs, emphasising that his focus in the search for a successor was more on competence than any other consideration.

The Governor stated that Prof Ikonne has the cognate experience, exposure and most enviable track record in public service and administration and has evinced clear knowledge and vision of what to do on assumption of office in May 2023 to achieve greater Abia.

Responding at the Summit, Prof Ikonne who spoke through Rt. Hon Uzo Azubuike thanked the summit for being discerning and most objective in their deliberations and Resolution to adopt him.

Rt. Hon. Uzo Azubuike used the opportunity to thank the Governor for encouraging his aspiration to contribute further in the development of Abia state.

Prof Ikonne thanked numerous religious, professional and socio cultural groups who have expressed confidence in him and encouraged his aspiration to govern Abia.

He assured that his concept of Participatory Governance in TIGER ECONOMY will put Power and Wealth in the hands of the people and challenged the various community based groups to do a NEEDS assessment of their people in readiness for a new Order that will build on the foundation laid by Governor Ikpeazu and his predecessors to create prosperity for a greater Abia.

Prof Ikonne reassured that he will be Governor of Abia State where every well-meaning Abia man or woman will be happy and proud.

Prominent sons and daughters of Ukwa Ngwa were in attendance at the summit among who were Prof. Elder Paul Ananaba SAN, Prof. Sampson Erugo SAN, Chief Mrs Uchechi Evo, Chief Mrs Evulukwu, Chief Ojonta Alala and Presidents of various Ukwa Ngwa Groups and Associations in Lagos.
