Relevant Stakeholders have identified social media as a veritable tool towards nation building and national integration.

This was disclosed at the 33rd Edition of the Nigeria Army Social Media Seminar with the theme (Enhancing National Security Through The Response Use of the Social Media) held at GIA Event Centre No. 5 Aba – Owerri Road Aba, Abia State.

Declaring the event open the Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Army Headquarters Major General T.T. Dada who doubled as the Special Guest of Honour reteriated the need for Social Media users to understand the powerful nature of media. He maintained that every citizen of Nigeria should put into perspective the peace and unity of the country.

In their own part, the keynote speakers Dr Ehiz Odigie and Prof JU Ogbonna discovered the various reasons why Social Media Influencers are enthusiastic about sharing faking news which according to them are majorly determined because of the quest to trend, getting of followers and as well to increase ones income.

While stressing the need for information disseminators to verify their news source before sharing, maintained that passing out of fake information is also punishable by law.

In his contribution, a Veteran Nollywood Actor Osita Iheme advised Social Media users who are majorly the youths to be sure of the information they’re disseminating.

During the seminar that lasted over 5 hours, there were question and answer series where participants were given the liverage to ask relevant questions .

Notable personalities that attended the seminar include, Senior Army officer, Major Gen. T.T. Numbere and Prof Uwaoma Uche of Gregory University, Uturu, Abia state.

The seminar ended with the issuance of certificates to all the participants
