The PDP gubernatorial candidate in Abia State, Professor Uche Ikonne has pledged to partner with the members of Abia Council of Village Heads, to drive home his participatory governance policy as an organized grassroot association.
Professor Ikonne made this pledge when leaders and members of Abia State Council of Village Heads from the 17 local government areas of the State paid him a solidarity visit in his Agburuike Nsulu country home, Isiala Ngwa North LGA.
He disclosed his desire to give legal backing to his participatory governance policy through the State House of Assembly with the aim of creating the 5th tier of government at the grassroot, with the Village Heads as leaders of the 5th tier of government.
He tasked them on keeping to their promise by mobilizing massive support for him and all PDP candidates at the grassroot, as well as ensuring that each polling unit in their area has one hundred PDP canvassers for the electioneering exercise.
Professor Ikonne who described them as a well-organized group, assured them that their efforts towards supporting PDP will be rewarded, while urging them to commence door-to-door campaign for all PDP candidates.
Speaking earlier, the chairman Abia council of Village Heads, Chief Nwoke Ihediwa and Chairman, Abia North chapter of the Association, Ambassador Emeka Okereke, said they came to show solidarity to the governorship ambition of Professor Ikonne and to encourage him to remain focused, describing him as an experienced and astute administrator who has the capacity to continue the good works of governor Okezie Ikpeazu in the State.
Contributing, the former Deputy Governor, Chief Acho Nwakanma, the former Commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Uzo Azubuike, Chief Jude Udeachara and Pastor Ebere Esiaba, appreciated the Abia Council of Village Heads for their conviction that Professor Ikonne is the right candidate for the governorship position, next year.
They assured the group that Professor Ikonne will fast-track development in the State by building on the development plan laid by Governor Ikpeazu, and charged them to work seriously for 5/5 victory for the PDP in the State.
In a vote of thanks, the former Chairman, Isiala Ngwa North local government area, Chief Friday Onukwue thanked members of the Association for their support for Professor Ikonne, and prayed God to help them to remain faithful to their promise of voting massively for Professor Ikonne.
The Director PDP campaign council and DG Uche Ndi Abia Campaign Organisation, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Elechi, Sir Chinedu Ugoala, members of Uche Ndi Abia campaign organisation, among others, were present during the meeting.
