For some time now, Abia State Polytechnic Aba, Abia citadel of learning situated at the heart of Aba, popularly called Enyimba city has been in the news for the bad reasons.

The prestigious tertiary institution, that was set up in 1992 but formally took off in 1993 at the premises of Girls Technical College Aba, has had it’s own share of turbulent times.

However, with the intervention of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu led administration in the state, coupled with the new Governing Council, led by Elder John Nwangborogwu and the focused new Rector, Dr. Okoro Kalu Osonwa, the once derided higher institution has gotten back it’s grove and improving on the successes so far recorded.

The cheering news is that; TETFUND project is back to the school and work in progress, the technological ingenuity of the school is activated and working, while the lecturers and staff have expressed hope of a more conducive working environment, while the issues of salary is being sorted out and would soon be a king of the past.

Abia State Polytechnic as at the time of filling this report has locally produced Elephant Electric Renewable Energy Bulb.

Speaking to newsmirrorng.com crew, the Head of Department, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Engr. Kelechi Inyama said the department is being motivated by the good and friendly disposition of the new Rector, Dr. Okorie Kalu Osonwa, propelled by the zeal to reciprocate his calm and friendly engagement, thus the need to try something new to enhance the school in all ramifications, thus thinking out of the box to produce a handy product that every house hold can use.

“We laid our plans on the table and brought to our delibration the ideas of manufacturing and what? After suggestions and brain storming sessions, we decided to research on how best to produce electricity bulb to our teeming population, that will be cheap and durable, here we are todag” – Engr. Iyama told newsmirrorng.com crew.

An Industrial training ( IT) student, Enwereuzor Ndubuisi Stanley added that, the school can produce as many electric bulbs as possible that can meet the demand of South East market and beyond if given the necessary assistance.

The HOD, Engr. Kelechi Iyama stressed that the Elephant Electric renewal bulb is the best bulb in the country and that it is aimed at increasing the revenue base of the school.

Engr. Iyama however pointed out that the department is facing challenges which includes lack of funds and the usage of manual tapping equipment which makes quantity production a little slower, while soliciting for assistance by the government and good spirited Nigerian businessmen to come and partner with the school for mass production, instead of going to import from China or to buy from other states of the federation.

With this feet, we can boldly say that, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba is changing the narrative, and the Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu led adminstration has yet scored another first in the promotion of local manufactured goods and ENYIMBA ELECTRIC BULB is yet another MADE IN ABA product.
