One of the top contenders to the Abia South Senatorial seat and candidate of Labour Party, Engr Chinedu Onyeizu, says he is confident of defeating his co-contenders in the forthcoming election, who include the incumbent Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, a former Deputy Governor of Abia State and incumbent senator representing Abia South Senatorial District. He made this disclosure while featuring as a guest on a popular radio programme, The Village Square, TVS, on Monday.
Reacting to the question by the anchor, Dr Stanley Nduagu, who asked him how he intended to contend with and defeat the gladiators such as Governor Ikpeazu and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe who has been in the Senate for about sixteen years, Engr Chinedu Onyeizu described himself as the biblical David that will defeat, not just one Goliath, but two. He went further to state that in the next election, people will choose competence above party affiliation and loyalty. He said that the Senate and the seat of the Senator for Abia South would not be a retirement home for a Governor who gifts women #500 after delivery and sees it as an achievement, or a place for a former Deputy Governor who has spent 20 years in government without leaving any legacy for which the people of Abia South can celebrate, but a place for vibrant and committed persons desirous of impacting positively on the Nigerian society.
Reacting to the withdrawal of the accreditation of Abia State Polytechnic, Engr Chinedu Onyeizu, an outstanding scholar and petroleum engineer, accused the Government of Abia State of gambling with the future of Abia youths. While urging the people to vote out all incompetent leaders, he suggested several things that can be done to permanently solve the problem of Abia State Polytechnic. He further assured that one of the bills he would initiate immediately after getting into the Senate will be to make Abia State Polytechnic a federal institution.
He assured the people of Abia South Senatorial District that with him as Senator and Mr Peter Obi as president, the people of Obingwa, Ugwunagbor, Aba North, Aba South, Ukwa East and Ukwa West, and indeed all Nigerians will be better for it.
