Abia Polytechnic Honours Sir Chris Akomas, RMAFC Commissioner with Fellowship Award

In its efforts to assist Abia State Polytechnic Aba, to champion the advancement of technical education and entrepreneurship, a humanitarian organization known as Chris Akomas Foundation has offered a hand of collaboration to the institution.

Speaking shortly after receiving an award of Fellowship from the institution during its 7th -18th combined convocation ceremony, held at the AbiaPoly pavilion, the founder of the foundation and a former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Comrade Chris Akomas, kick-started the partnership with a take-off of 2 milliion naira only.

He also announced a 200 thousand naira each to the eleven best graduates within the period, and 300 thousand naira to the overall best student

Akomas, a Federal Commissioner representing Abia State at the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission assured the management of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba of a sustained healthy synergy and collaboration, even as he expressed delight for the honour.

Earlier, the State Governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu announced the approval of the upgrading the State Polytechnic to a University with immediate effect and a take-off grant of 500 Million Naira.

Ikpeazu said his administration will continue to perform its roles to the institution to ensure that the main reason for establishing it is achieved.

He disclosed that in order to bridge the gap of unemployable youths in the state, his administration established the Education for Employment (E 4 E) program to train up youths in skill acquisition that will be employable upon graduation.

In a remark also, the State Commissioner for Post Education, Mr Chijioke Mark said the most remarkable achievement of the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu administration is adequate security in the state which led to the successful convocation of the Polytechnic amongst other activities and lauded the Rector, Associate Professor Hagler Okorie and the Governing Council for breaking the jinx after a decade.

Presenting an address, the Board Chairman, Governing Council of the Polytechnic, Deacon Obioma Ekpem who announced an automatic employment for the overall best graduate of the School, Joseph Chidera in the school, called for a healthy collaboration from every sector so as to make the institution great.

In a welcome address, the Rector, Abia State Polytechnic Aba, Dr. Hagler Okorie said, despite the challenges facing the institution, the school Community has remained productive and resiliently innovation-driven.

Hagler, an Associate Professor also noted that the Fellowship awards were given to individuals who have shown unparalleled achievements and contributions to humanity.

Reacting, the overall best graduate, Mr Chidera Joseph who was overwhelmed with joy thanked the Abia State Government, AbiaPoly Governing Council, the Rector and School management for completing their academic activities through the convocation and promised on behalf of others, to be good Ambassadors.

Others who were honoured with Fellowship Awards include: Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State; Prof. Azubuike Onyebuchi, Chief Medical Director, Federal Medical Center Umuahia; Proprietor, St Bridget Schools, Lady Bridget Nwankwo among others
