The National Chairman of the Young Progressives Party, Bishop Amakiri has reacted to the defection of Abia House of Assembly Members to the ruling Labour Party in the state

Recall that the ranks of the Labour Party in the Abia State House of Assembly swelled, Tuesday, giving them a clear majority, following the defection of Hon Iheanacho Nwogu of Osisioma North State Constituency and Hon Fyne Ahuama of Osisioma South State Constituency, both initially of the Young Progressives Party.

Following a correspondence conveying the duo’s expulsion from the YPP as a result of what was tagged “ Anti – Party Activities” for openly supporting the administration of Governor Alex Otti, which was read out during Plenary by the Speaker, Rt Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa, both sought for succour in the Labour Party which was granted.

Reacting, Bishop Amachiri told www.newsmirrorng.com in Abuja that the news of the defection has not gotten to him and wondered why they House of Assembly Members would defect when there is no crisis in the Party. Bishop Amachiri vowed to recover the mandate of YPP if indeed the duo left the party. He told our correspondent. ” If indeed the story is confirmed to be true, i vow to recover the mandate of the party, but for now, let me still see it as rumour until there is an official correspondence”, he said

Meanwhile, in their explanations, Hon Iheanacho Nwogu who is the Deputy Whip of the 8th Assembly and Hon Fyne Ahuama pledged their total support for the Alex Otti administration hinging same on the fact that the “Labour Party is founded on the tenets of justice and fair play”

A member of Abia state YPP, Mr. Chukwudi Jonah told www.newsmirrorng.com that there was no crisis in YPP, that the purported suspension of the House of Assembly members was a ploy by the members to use it an an excuse to defect to Labour Party, which they had already perfected their plans some months back.

Our efforts to reach the 2023 Governorship Candidate of YPP, Engr. Enyinnaya Nwafor proved abortive as at press time
