Nigeria has edged out Angola to book their place in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.

This position was secured with Nigeria getting a 1-0 win over Angola in the Friday’s march of the last 8.

The Super Eagles became the first team to qualify for the semifinals.

Angola were a tough side but never escaped the punching of Nigeria to get the ticket into the last four.

Ademola Lookman of Nigeria had scored the only goal in the first half.

It was a front hit that came in the 41st minute.

Simon had skipped away from the sliding challenge of Kialonda Gaspar.

It was from there, he squared up the ball for Lookman who fired into the roof of the net.

Lookman’s goal made the difference as Nigeria continue to march on in Ivory Coast

Angola made frantic moves a number of times.

But their retaliatory hits did not convert into any goal, nonetheless.

This is despite the latching move made by Angola substitute, Zine who had beaten Nwabali but only saw his first-time shot bounced back off the post.

Victor Osimhen struck a header from Lookman’s free-kick. He chalked it off for offside and into the net.

But VAR denied the goal that would have been the second for Nigeria.

It is now four clean sheets in a row for Nigeria that does have a very solid team, undoubtedly.

The defence looks solid and the platform supports success.

Nigeria that is a three-time winner has demonstrated sterling ability to handle the favourites tag with a hard-earned victory.

Within the win, they will either play South Africa or Cape Verde in the semis.
