Dr Yusuf Tanko, the former spokesperson of Peter Obi Presidential campaign in the 2023 elections, has said that former Anambra governor has been meeting with political gladiators in the country, including the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Tanko stated this during an interview on Channels TV.

He said that Nigerians needed a merger in 2027 that would take them out of the woods.

Tanko said, “Obi has been meeting with owners of industries, technocrats, students and political gladiators.

“There are quite a number of them that have been reached out to, for example Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who is a good political gladiator. We had met with him.

“We had meetings with different individuals and political parties like SDP and ADC. Most of the political parties will be reached out to. They are already having meetings among themselves.

“You need to have a conglomerate of grounded political parties who are interested in getting Nigeria out of the woods.”

*I don’t see Atiku, Obi alliance*

However, a former federal lawmaker, Tajuddeen Yusuf, says he does not see the possibilty of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar merging with Obi in 2027.

He said, “They worked together in 2019. It would not be out of place if they work together again. However, I don’t see their minds, but I don’t see the possibility.

“They met few days ago. After the meeting, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar came out to say that he would continue to contest as long as he is alive and healthy.

“To me, that was to send the signal to especially the people who may have the notion that he would step down for Obi. A statement a week later clarified that. I believe both Atiku and Obi will contest.”

*The shock, the real deal*

However, a source very close to the merger plan reveals that Atiku will not run for 2027 Presidency if a deal is brokered between Atiku, Peter Obi and Kwankwaso. The deal the insider volunteered is to have Peter Obi for President and Rabiu Kwankwaso as his Vice President, while Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will either go to Senate or play the political sweeper of a ‘godfather’.

The deal also suggested that Peter Obi Vice Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general elections will be offered a Senate option.

However, there is a clause, that if the merger works and they secure victory, that Peter Obi will only go for one tenure of 4 years to complete the Southern Nigeria 8 years, sin r Tinubu will be doing 4 years by 2027.

How all these permutations will work out at last, it’s a matter of conjecture as we keep our hands crossed as the political drama unfolds.
