Yesterday, the National Judicial Council, NJC, released the names of the 11 justices recommended for elevation to the Supreme Court. Among them is the Honourable Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa

Justice Uwa, the wife of the late Engr. Uzoma Uwa, a former Executive Chairman of Isiala Ngwa South LGA, is from Ovuoji village in Isiala Ngwa South LGA of Abia State. Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa was, before her elevation to the Court of Appeal in 2006, a judge of the Abia State High Court.

Educated in Nigeria, the UK and Kenya, Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa was born on October 26, 1958 and appointed a judge in Abia State in 1998.

Until her recommendation to the apex court, she was the presiding justice of the Kaduna Division of the Court of Appeal. It is on record that the honorable justice has been known to have delivered landmark judgements, among which is the revalidation of the election of Bala Muhammade as the Governor of Bauchi State.

When her recommendation is finally confirmed, Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa would go into the history books as among the Ngwa’s firsts, which include Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, the first elected governor of the Ngwa extraction; the late Prince Isaac Uzoigwe, first deputy governor of the Ngwa extraction; the late Jaja Wachukwu, first Federal Minister of the Ngwa extraction; Dr Paul Ananaba, first Senior Advocate of Nigeria of the Ngwa extraction, among others.
