The Stakeholders of the people’s Democratic party in Isiala Ngwa North have unanimously adopted Chief Okey Ahiwe as their sole aspirant in the party’s Guber primary election scheduled to hold this Saturday at the Umuahia township stadium.
In a well attended meeting, presided over by the LGA Chairman of the party, Elder Sam Esindu which was held at the party secretariat at Okpuala, the group in motion moved by the Hon Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Rt Hon Sir Christopher Enweremadu, and seconded by Chief Iyke Anugwa later received an overwhelming voice support by all the members who were in attendance.
Speaking earlier, the Hon Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Rt Hon Sir Christopher Enweremadu while explaining the unfortunate circumstance that led to the call for the re-run, described Chief Okey Ahiwe as suitable replacement to Late Professor Uche Ikonne who hitherto was the party’s flag bearer, adding that Chief Ahiwe has successfully discharged all tasks assigned to him in the past and called for support of all and sundry in other to ensure the party’s resounding victory at the General elections.
He further commended the Leader of the party and Governor of the state, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, alongside members of the party caucus in the state for once again Micro Zoning the Abia Guber ticket to Isiala Ngwa North, maintaining that the party has by that singular gesture, exhibited wisdom, maturity and their love for the people of Isiala Ngwa North, pledging the readiness of members of the party in Isiala Ngwa North to deliver all PDP candidates in this year’s general elections.
While lending their voices, the former member that represented the people of Aba North/South in the house of Representatives, Rt Hon Uzo Azubuike, a former Chieftain of the All progressive Congress, Chief Onyekachi Onyenkwere, Dr. Sam Ahiwe, among other described Chief Okey Ahiwe as a round peg in a round hole, as he’s a man whose humility and sense of humor have endeared him into the hearts of everyone, including members of the opposition, and urged every one to queue behind him for Saturday’s Primary election.
In his goodwill message, a former member of the Abia House of Assembly from Ugwunagbo, Hon Humphrey Azubuike commended the Stakeholders of the party in Isiala Ngwa North for their unity and cooperation, and made case for the support of Chief Okey Ahiwe, insisting that his adoption by the party stakeholders is right and ripe by every standard.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the PDP Chairman for Isiala Ngwa North, Elder Sam Esindu said the aim of meeting was for members to be acquainted with the recent twist of events in the polity, stressing the need for the party in Isiala Ngwa North to keep their house in order ahead of the Re-run scheduled for this Saturday, and thanked them for efforts and sacrifices so far, urging them not to relent.
In his vote of thanks, Chief Okey Ahiwe expressed gratitude to party members for their show of support and solidarity, and promised to live up to expectations if elected as the party’s flag bearer.
The group had earlier observed a minute silence in honor of late prof uche Ikonne, while dignitaries including the PDP candidate for Isiala Ngwa North state Constituency, Chief Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu, Chief Friday Onukwue, Elder G. O. C Nnaji, Hon Armstrong Chimezie Okoronkwo, Mrs. Tina Atasie, the LGA woman leader, Mrs. Justina Ikonne, members of the state party Exco including Hon Godfrey Ogbonnna and Sir Peter Nwokonko, Chief Uzoma Ihuka, Chief Gauis Anyanwụ, the General Manager of Abia State Synage and advertisement agency, Hon Tony Otuonye among several others were present at the meeting.
