In a shocking display of neglect, the State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Akwa Ibom State has fallen into disrepair and left to decay by the Party.
Images exclusively obtained by our correspondent show a decrepit building lying to waste with no serious activity going on in the premises.
Many APC members and stakeholders have bemoaned the state of affairs in the party and accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of deliberately working hard to destroy the party in the state by openly pledging his loyalty to the opposition PDP led government in Akwa Ibom State while abandoning his own party to rot.
Once a bustling hub for party events and meetings, the APC secretariat in Akwa Ibom now stands as a haunting testament to neglect and abandonment.
The secretariat located at No. 6 Ekpo Obot Street in Uyo, now paints a distressing picture of neglect. Walking through the premises reveals a crumbling facade, with walls worn down by weather and neglect. The roof is leaking, Windows are shattered, and the whole premises is now overgrown with weeds.
“It’s shameful,” expresses a member of the party who craved anonymity. “Our leader of the Party in Akwa Ibom, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, is more keen on showing support to Governor Umo Eno than building his own party in the State. He has not made any attempts to support the party in the state”.
The Senate President has been severally accused of working in concert with PDP to destroy APC in Akwa Ibom State. Multiple sources reveal that Akpabio’s anti party activities dates back to October 2021 when he deliberately set up the parallel group against the authentic State Exco to factionalize the party and fuel internal crisis in a bid to ensure the Party does not present authentic candidates in Akwa Ibom State in favour of PDP.
He proceeded to foist his ADF group on the party and fielded his unpopular minions as candidates for various positions against the will of many stakeholders and Party faithful across the State.
During the last 2023 general elections, It is an open secret in Akwa Ibom State that Akpabio entered into a deal with opposition YPP and PDP to support his ambition while trading off the interest of his fellow party men in return.
It is on record that the Senate President agreed with PDP that status quo remains as such all APC cases to date have been lost. Akpabio immediately after the elections has gone on a campaign against all Ibibio APC stakeholders including the gubernatorial candidate hence all appointments have gone to his minority tribe excluding the Ibibios. He persuaded the Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Akwa Ibom South (Eket Senatorial District) from Ibibio extraction , in the February 25 National Assembly polls, Hon. Martins Udoinyang to withdraw his petition against Senator Ekong Sampson of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Since he emerged Senate President, he has been seen openly hobnobbing and pledging loyalty to Governor Umo Eno and PDP in the State even when APC and it’s Candidates have matters pending before Tribunals against PDP.
Most recently, He confessed publicly, in what has become a national show of Shame,openly boasting in church that he’s not part of the fight to remove the PDP governor as he’s accepted him as his governor, and that he influenced several appointments which were given to his ADF group and YPP party members that are his structures under the Tinubu led Federal Government controlled by APC and gave them a specific mandate to work for Governor Umo Eno and PDP in Akwa Ibom State. He also congratulated Governor Umo Eno for a well deserved victory at the Court of Appeal even before the Appellate court was yet to deliver judgement on the case.
Party sources reveal that the pitiable state of the APC secretariat in Akwa Ibom is a sad metaphor of the completely abandoned and destroyed APC structure in Akwa Ibom State while the Senate President is building his ADF and YPP structures he has influenced appointments for. Salaries are not paid to staff of APC Akwa Ibom State Chapter. It all aligns with Akpabio’s ultimate agenda to destroy the party in the state while he remains the Numero uno in the State using the ADF and YPP structures for the pursuit of his selfish 2027 Presidential ambition.
Efforts to reach out to Senate President Akpabio’s Press aides for comment were met with silence. The absence of accountability from the Number 3 man and leader of the Party in the state raises concerns about his commitment to the welfare and development of his Party in the State.
