The Chairman/ CEO, Oma Nma Life Saving and Health Foundation, High Chief Dr Boniface Ifeanyi Ariekpere Ajuzie has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dr Alex Chioma Otti led administrations to use the huge federal and state allocations to cushion the hardship and hunger in the land and empower farmers in rural communities this farming season.
High Chief Ariekpere who made this call during a life saving and empowerment programme organized by Oma Nma Foundation in Amaoji, Umuosu Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Abia state, tagged GOING BACK TO OUR FARMS TO GROW OUR ECONOMY AGAIN
The Oma Nma Life Saving and Health Foundation Chairman said, the socioeconomic woes in Nigeria today was neither the making of President Tinubu nor that of Abia state Governor, Dr. Alex Oti rather blamed it on our collective abandonment of farming which could have enabled us to produce not just what we can eat as was done in the past, but for export and decried our dependent on import based economy rather than an agrarian based economy.
” We should produce what we will consume as a nation and even export some to earn foreign exchange and reduce the pressure on our falling currency, the naira”, Chief Ariekpere told the indigent farmers.
Dr Boniface Ifeanyi Ariekpere charged Amoji Umuosidim people to return to their farms so they can contribute their quota to growing the economy of our dear state, Abia and Nigerian at large.
The highlight of the programme was the distribution of over 200 cutlasses and farming hoes including cash for farm acquisition to Amorji men and women, as he urged them to to go back to farm to produce *Yam, Maize, Cassava, Trileave Yam, Coca yam, Vegetables, Groundnuts, Ukpo, Achara, Melon, Local Pepper, Tomato* as was done by our people in the past when Agriculture was the economic mainstay of Nigeria.
Speaking during the occasion, the Chairman of Amoji community of Umuosu, Pastor Chukwuma Nwaogazi thanked High Chief Dr Boniface Ifeanyi Ariekpere, describing him as a special breed and a gift to Abia State in general and promised not to take this empowerment for granted, assuring that himself and his community will surprise Abia State this year with their bumper harvest.
One of the recipients of the Farm Acquisition Cash and Materials, Lolo Nora Chukwudunebi added that, the theme – Going back to our farms and grow our economy as charged by Oma Nma Foundation is now a challenge to them to produce more for both themselves and her fellow women of Umuosu
The programme was graced by various farmers clubs in Isiala Ngwa North LGA
Recall that Ngwa Land in general has been the food basket of Abia state. One remarkable thing about farming in Ngwa is that they are not done with tractors, rather hoe and cutlasses. The timely intervention of Chief Ariekpere is thoughtful and should be applauded by all.
