Remember,Hon Onyedi Okwulehie, the candidate of All Progressive Congress,APC that won 2023 election to represent the good people of Ohuhu state constituency in the Abia House of Assembly but was denied certificate of return at the eleventh hour by the Independent National Electoral Commission,Inec due to court pronouncements.
This sudden shocking development devastated his teeming supporters who voted him to power,but Hon Onyedi Okwulehie in his usual gentle disposition took the outcome of the courts with equanimity and urged members of his ‘Odinma Ohuhu” campaign train and other numerous supporters to remain calm noting that God’s time is the best.
It would be recalled that during the electioneering campaigns,Hon Onyedi Okwulehie had campaigned extensively covering all the villages and Wards that make up Ohuhu clan,he preached hope,he preached Maka Odinma Ohuhu,and his people listened and thus rewarded by voting him to power before the unexpected withdrawal and handed over to the person who was said not to had campaigned but gifted to the ticket through courts judgement.
As a true son of legendary Dee Sam Okwulehie,he made promises if voted to power,,he has since kept to his promises by affecting the lives of his people positively despite the fact that he was not eventually sworn in as a member of Abia House of Assembly in the current political dispensation.
However,on Wednesday,20th day of December,2023,Hon Onyedi Okwulehie distributed seven ( 7) brand new motor cycles to his constituents which observers described as a good development coming in the month of yuletide
to the beneficiaries who sang his praises.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony,the Director General of Odinma Ohuhu campaign organization who is the Chairman of planning Committee,said that the free brand new motor cycle is valued at #670,ooo each including registration,plate number, helmet,just akin to “take and drive” without problem of the beneficiaries looking for where to get money for registration formalities.
The Director General of Odinma Ohuhu organization who was represented by the Deputy Director General,Ikeoha Jones Nwabueze who admonished the beneficiaries to make good use of the empowerment items to better their lives.
Meanwhile,,one of the beneficiaries of brand new motor cycle is Mr Ikechukwu Josiah from Umungasi Amaogwugwu Ohuhu in Umuhu ward who it was reported that suffered the pains of heavy truck crushing his motor cycle,but because of his commitment to Odinma Ohuhu and APC gave rise to his nomination.
Members of Odinma Ohuhu and APC ward leaders who witnessed the ceremony also lauded Hon Onyedi Okwulehie for attracting these projects to Ohuhu people.This brief distribution ceremony took place at Echendu building, Isingwu Ward,built by Late Chief Sam Okwulehie’s family in memory of his Children that died in Dana air plane crash.
Some of the beneficiaries to the empowerment scheme sang praises of the donors noting that it would go a long way in changing their economic fortunes while praying God to replenish the pockets of their donor.
It is important to stress at this juncture that prior to distribution of this seven brand new free motor cycles,Hon Onyedi Okwulehie in collaboration with Ambassador Chinwendu Okezie,the President General, Isingwu Welfare Union, Abuja branch had attracted empowerment road project from Anambra/ Imo River Basin Authority for Ohuhu people starting from Umuoriehi junction to Isingwu Secondary School down to the old boys dormitory at Amafor Ihungwu.
This road project though still ongoing has not only made driving motorable but has added to the aesthetic beauty of the road even as Isingwu people,visitors can’t stop applauding those who attracted the road project that was not only in deplorable condition before the quick intervention of the duo.
They also attracted Power solar energy panels installed from Umuoriehi junction to Amafor Ihungwu which made this road a beauty to behold especially at night .
As if these were not enough,under the empowerment scheme,many indigenes of Ohuhu were empowered with Water Pumping Machines to aid their farms especially in area of commercial agriculture.This was
with the support of Chinwendu Okezie and distributed to constituents as part of campaign promises made by Odinma Ohuhu and APC.
In addition,under Education, Programme, Odinma Ohuhu has adopted five(5) Ohuhu students for educational financial support. For example, the foundation assisted a female student of Afugiri Ward changed her course from Biology to Nursing at Abia State University, Uturu and also assisted a 100 level female student in Isingwu ward studying Nursing at University of Nigeria Nsukka,UNN respectively.
The foundation is also assisting further education pursuit of Mr Paul Onyenaturuchi,a physically challenged student .
At Nkwoachara and Nkwoegwu Wards,the Committee is still carrying out nomination processes to select would be benefitting students to cover those two Wards while other Wards have their students studying at either Abia State University, Uturu or UNN
According to the Chairman of the planning Committee, and the Director General of Odinma Ohuhu organization,Barr Somadila Uzodinma, explained that the committee will scrutinize the age of the students,look at discipline as part of criteria required to be nominated because it would be foolhardy to select one who will not be disciplined enough to appreciate the gains of the scholarship scheme.
Under power /solar energy initiative, Odinma Ohuhu campaign organization attracted five(5) electricity poles distributed to Eze Nwachukwu(Solid) of Umuda Isingwu Ofeme community in Umuhu ward valued at #450, 000 , for each pole with #50,000 for transportation and installations totalling #500,000 per pole.
This same gesture was also extended to His Royal Highness,Eze Udoka from Ude Ofeme ,one of oldest traditional rulers in Ohuhu as his autonomous community benefitted from five (5) electric poles valued at #2.5 million
Our reporter gathered that those ten (10) electric poles is valued at five million naira even as the committee said second batch for 2024 will be capture those people at Mbato through the leadership of HRH Eze Emeka Nwankwo.
It was also gathered that the usual Sam Okwulehie memorial football competition will continue as soon as possible, perhaps next year. The last tournament was won by Afugiri ward.
It is remarkable to note that Hon Onyedi Okwulehie was doing all these empowerment even outside being a member of Abia House of Assembly while keeping with his hitherto electioneering promises made during campaign periods.
What else can the beneficiaries and teeming supporters of Ohuhu people say than to commend him for living up to his promises unlike our typical Nigerian politicians.
