Abia Polytechnic is mourning the untimely death of one of its brightest students, Miss Mary Ogechi Ezekiel, who tragically lost her life in a fatal accident. The incident occurred in front of the school premises, leaving the entire community in shock and disbelief.

Late Miss Mary Ogechi Ezekiel was a final year student in the Accounting department, and she had recently been recognized as the best student in her field. Her outstanding academic achievements had filled her with hope and anticipation for a bright future. She was determined to clear her results promptly to prepare for her upcoming National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization.

On Tuesday, the 5th of March 2024, Miss Ezekiel visited the school to collect her final results. Little did she know that this routine trip would turn into a tragic event. As she crossed the road near the entrance of the polytechnic, she was fatally crushed by a fast-moving heavy truck. The impact of the accident was devastating, leading to her untimely demise.

The news of Miss Ezekiel’s death spread like wildfire, leaving her Family and the entire school community in deep sorrow. The entire polytechnic community has expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. Many fondly remember her as a diligent and dedicated student who had a promising future ahead of her.

This tragic incident has also sparked a renewed conversation about road safety in the area. Concerns have been raised over the lack of pedestrian safety measures and the frequent occurrence of accidents near educational institutions. Students and staff are urging the authorities to take immediate action to prevent such accidents from happening again.

In the wake of this unfortunate incident, the family has announced plans for a memorial service of Miss Mary Ogechi Ezekiel. The service will provide an opportunity for the entire community to come together and pay their respects.

The funeral arrangements are currently underway, and she is set to be laid to rest later this month. Mr Ezekiel Abel Uko in the heartfelt announcement captioned “Forever Loved, Forever Missed” on behalf of the family said there will be a Praise/Candle Night at her Aba Residence which the laying in state at her country home follows.

In his words: “With gratitude to God, we, the family of the late Apostle Ezekiel Ulu Kazi of Ojebe Family in Noiopu Compound, Anuukwu Igbere, Abia State, announce the passing unto glory of our beloved daughter and sister, 27 years Aladura, Mary Ogechi Ezekiel.

“Burial arrangement: 15th April 2024 – PRAISE NIGHT/CANDLE LIGHT at her residence, 21a Adindu, Off Omuma Road, Aba. On 18th April 2024, the body will leave St Francis Mortuary, Aba-Owerri Road, and proceed to her hometown, Ndi Ogbu Amakwu, Igbere, Abia State.

“May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen“

The polytechnic community, as well as her friends and family, are preparing to bid their final farewell and remember her as a bright and promising young woman whose life was cut short.
