The point must be proclaimed to the rooftops that Prof Uche Ikonne is contesting for the 2023 governorship election of Abia State basically on grounds of equity and justice.

By so doing, he is on the right step, great mission, good ambition and an agenda which are divine and ordained by God Almighty.

Therefore, he is riding on the impeccable track of justice because, equity and fairness are essentially at his threshold.

In all intents and purposes, Ikonne would not have decided to run for an election if he is aware that his ambition is practically against the principle of fairness, equity and justice.

Remarkably, it was former governor, Senator
Orji Uzor Kalu in 2007, in his wisdom, handed over to an Abia Central politician from the Ikwuano/Umuahia axis, now Senator T.A Orji, representing Abia Central Senatorial zone at the red chambers. Kalu then had insisted that power couldn’t just fly from the north plane to south without touching at the centre.

In fact, Kalu jocularly but correctly noted that whenever such a flight attempts doing such a journey, it would certainly crash. Based on that established protocol, T.A. Orji was voted as Governor in 2007.

As it is now, we can therefore take it that, just like in 2007, power cannot berth at Abia North without having a stopover at Abia Central base. This is the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and PDP trajectory when they included both Abia North and Abia Central in the 2023 zoning arrangement.

The question now is: does Ikonne have all it takes to move Abia to the next level? The answer is in the affirmative.

The erudite Professor of Optometry, having navigated through the rudiments of academic training and equiped with high technical know-how is the best man for the job. He is the most qualified man at the moment to govern Abia because he had in the past handled offices that require wisdom, maturity, tactfulness and vision whereupon he excelled and delivered.

Abia as a state needs someone that knows the
nooks and crannies of the state, not helicopter politicians who stay in Abuja, Lagos or Port Harcourt and merely visits the state on weekends.

These people don’t know Abia. They only jostle for their private pockets and that of their families and fraternities.

For those who don’t know, while serving as the Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu, Ikonne assiduously changed the narratives as he started and founded the Faculty of Engineering. He separated the two faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences to create Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Social Sciences respectively.. He proved that he was a man of great innovative ideas and vision.

Thus, Ikonne is the governor Abia urgently needs for swift growth and development. The erudite scholar with quintessential track records of excellent performance in all his given assignments is blazing the trail and pathfinding the way to make Abia great.

There is no other way to make sure for Uche ndi Abia to happen than to come out in our numbers and give our maximum support to Prof Ikonne. He is intelligent, firm and assertive for all the good reasons.

Our story must drastically change for the best when this eventually comes to fruition.
