The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD has sent a message of congratulations to General (Senator) Ike Omar Sanda Nwachukwu (Rtd) on the very auspicious occasion of his 80th birthday today.

In a release by his Chief Press Secretary Sir Onyebuchi Enemanka, Gov. Ikpeazu describes General Nwachukwu as “clearly one of the most accomplished Nigerians in every sense of the word considering his sterling record of service to our country”.

The Governor recalls with nostalgia the days of the General as the Military Governor of the old Imo State and notes with gratitude that it was during under his watch that the permanent site of the old Imo State University was moved to its present serene location at Uturu, which today serves as the main campus of the Abia State University.

“General Nwachukwu”, the Governor notes, “parades one of the finest records of service as a Military man having served as Military Governor, Minister of Labor and Productivity where he oversaw the establishment of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) which continues till today to serve as a critical federal government interventionist agency in providing jobs for Nigerians, two time Minister of Foreign Affairs, and capping his military career as the first and only Igbo man to have commanded Nigeria’s topmost Army formation , the First Mechanized Division, Kaduna”.

“After a very successful career in the Nigerian Army”, Governor Ikpeazu continues, “The General chose to serve the people of our state by contesting for and emerging Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing the good people of Abia North Senatorial District”.

Governor Ikpeazu describes the life of the General as “a living encyclopedia of service” and thanks God for keeping him alive and strong on his 80th birthday.

The Governor, on behalf of his family, the Government and People of Abia State wishes the General a very happy birthday while praying the good Lord to grant him many more years ahead.
