The ministry of justice has proposed N2billion to cover its legal services for the 2021 fiscal year.

However, the solicitor-general of the federation, Dayo Apata, described the amount as small when compared to what it is meant to do.

He made the comment when he appeared before the Senate committee on judiciary, legal, and human rights matters, on Monday, November 9.

Apata was in the National Assembly to defend the ministry of justice 2021 budget proposal at the invitation of the lawmakers.

Apata said the legal services include civil litigation, prison decongestion, trial and prosecution of Boko Haram criminals, administration of criminal justice system, and payment for international legal obligations.

As usual, Nigerians have been reacting to the news on social media.

Using the moniker, MasterP042, a Nigerian wrote on Nairaland:

“You shoot unarmed peaceful protesters dead, without a fair hearing or dialogue. But spend millions to prosecute Boko Haram terrorists who are meant to be shot at sight.
“Nigerian youths, this country doesn’t have us in mind. The earlier we know this the better.”

“Maybe they should share 50billion with ASUU since they are both killing Nigerians.”
Mysticwebb wrote:

“How many Boko Haram members have they successfully prosecuted and convicted all these years?
“Budget being allocated for that year in, year out, and nothing to show for that. This I believe is why Boko Haram may never end because it is business for the elites over there.

“Now they are fighting on increasing the amount maybe to accommodate the current increase in the cost of living due to their useless and mindless policies.”
