Vigilante operatives reported hospitalized as alleged group ‘Kaduna Boys’ attacks Owerri communities

No fewer than four vigilante operatives in Owerri communities in the Imo State capital, have been severely wounded following a series of attacks by suspected bandits, identified as ‘Kaduna Boys’.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, revealed that the hoodlums numbering over twenty five and heavily armed had early Thursday morning attacked Umuonyeche Community Vigilante operatives.

The incident which happened around 2am on Thursday, around Waterside Primary School Owerri, left one of the vigilante operatives, simply identified as Friday half dead.

Friday, whose neck, almost got severed from his body, has been rushed to the hospital where doctors are battling to save his life.

It was equally gathered that similar incident was also recorded last Tuesday when the same group of boys engaged in a bloody confrontation with vigilante operatives of Umuihugba-Umuodu Community in Owerri Municipal Area Council, Imo State.

It was gathered that the bandits were attempting to break into a phone shop located on Wetheral Road by Christ Church Junction, Owerri around 3am, before the intervention of the the night guards.

According to the source, “The vigilantes had prevented the bandits from attacking the phone shop which resulted to a fight and one of the vigilantes whose name was not mentioned sustained a machete cut while the bandits fled the scene unhurt.”

It was also gathered that the bandits armed with guns and other dangerous weapons had attacked Amawom village Vigilantes two weeks earlier and injuring about three vigilante operatives.

Meanwhile, Onyeishiala Owerri (the cultural head of Owerri community), High Chief Reginald Ejiogu in collaboration with the traditional rulers of the five autonomous communities in Owerri Municipal Council, held a meeting with the Hausa/Fulani Community in the state where it was admitted that some “Kaduna boys” were behind the attacks.

The meeting held at the office of Barr Ndukwe Nnawuchi (SAN), where the Hausa community in Imo State, led by Alhaji Auwal Sulaiman who was identified as the head of the Hausa/Fulanis in Imo State, allegedly tendered unreserved apology to Owerri residents, over the unrest caused by the criminals.

Alhaji Auwal, also reportedly promised to fish out the suspected bandits who are expected to be prosecuted according to the law.
