“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a step” says an age-long maxim.

Therefore, the journey of Prof. Uche Eleazar Ikonne to Abia State government house commenced on Thursday, November 24, 2022 with the official flag – off of the electioneering campaign by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu and four of his counterparts collectively known as the G-5 Governors, later christened ” The Integrty Group”.

They are Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, Samuel Ortom of Benue state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state and Seyi Makinde of Oyo state.

The five governors who have taken it upon themselves to fight against what they consider as injustice within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), temporarily suspended their tight state duties to identify and support their Abia state counterpart, Governor Ikpeazu and Prof. Uche Ikonne in his quest to succeed the incumbent Governor and indeed support all the PDP candidates for the 2023 elections.

Watchers of events especially on the political landscape were not surprised with the high level of support the Abia state gubernatorial candidate and all the PDP candidates enjoyed from Abians, in what an observer called ORGANIC CROWD

Abians from all walks of life on Thursday November 24, 2022 sent a strong message to the mushroom opposition parties in the state with one singular message; that PDP remains the party to beat in next year’s general elections.

The mammoth crowd that witnessed the commencement of the Abia state PDP campaign flag – off shows that the coast is clear for Prof. Ikonne and all the PDP candidates from top to bottom….in the words of the Speaker of Abia state House of Assembly, Engr Chinedum who is also the Candidate of PDP for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency

In his words, ” Prof. Uche Eleazer Ikonne is the incoming Governor of Abia state, PDP is on ground in Abia state and we are used to winning elections from top to bottom and we are going to win all the elective positions in Abia, come 2023″, the man popularly called ” Ikuku Oma Abia, added”.

Also speaking, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu threw a jab at the opposition parties in Abia, hear him;

“The candidates of opposition parties in Abia State were shopped from the dustbins of PDP

We have a big dustbin where we throw away renegades and recalcitrant people, they went there and picked a few dregs, individuals without consequence at all and of zero electoral value”

In his reaction Prof. Eleazer Uche Ikonne thanked Gov Ikpeazu fir encouraging him and thanked Abia PDP for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to disappoint Ndi Abia but to introduce a mantra called “Tiger Economy ” and “Participatory Governance” where all Abia citizens will be involved governance

With what happened at the Umuahia Township Stadium, there is no magic any other party in Abia will perform to win next year’s election.

The saying that Abia state belongs to PDP has been proven and Abians are not in a hurry to abandon the PDP and embraced the latter day saints.
