The Program Manager Abia State Agricultural Development program (ADP) Chief Israel Amanze has called on Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike to urgently release the results of the soil samples analysis conducted in all Local government Areas of the state during the farmers enumeration exercise.

Chief Amanze who made the call while declaring open a capacity building workshop on the protection and management of soil resources organized by the Nigeria Institute of Soil Science for Extension workers and farmers in Abia Central at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike said the release of the soil samples analysis will enable Abia farmers and other agricultural stakeholders know the soil map of the state.
The ADP Program Manager made it known that the results when released will help to improve agricultural production in all parts of the state and commended the Nigeria Institute of Soil Science for establishing a robust relationship with Abia ADP to help train Extension Agents and Abia Farmers as well as providing soil testing kits.


Also speaking, the state Coordinator, Nigeria Institute of Soil Science Professor Damian Asawalam said the institute was established by law in 2017 to regulate the profession of soil science pointing out that the training which is going on in all the 36 states of the country will be conducted in the 3 Senatorial zones of the state.


In her remarks, the Dean, College of Crop and Soil Sciences, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Professor Olayinka Nwachukwu said the Institute is doing a lot in the protection and management of soil resources and stressed the need for people to see themselves as custodians of the soil.
In an interview, some of the trainees including Ijeoma Eme ,Okechukwu Jacob and Okpara Chijioke thanked the organizers of the workshop for coming to train them and promised to make good use of the knowledge acquired to improve food production in the state.
The workshop also featured goodwill message by the Director, Center for Gender and Child Development MOUAU Dr Ifeoma Onwuka .

In the same Vein the south East regional workshop was held at the University of Nigeria Nsukka on Thursday 10th November 2022.

Chief Amanze Israel represented by Mrs Nnenna Udunma Uche thankedhe Soil science Society of Nigeria to continue to empower farmers through training and research for higher crop productivity per unit area and thanked them for being proactive.
