Not fewer than 3000 members of the APC, APGA and Labour Party in Ikwuano LGA have defected to the PDP in order to guarantee the prospect of their future political endeavours.
Denouncing the membership of their respective parties over the weekend at the Ikwuano LGA Council Headquarters, Isiala Oboro which they said is due to lack of internal democracy, nepotism and non-performance of their former political parties at Isiala Oboro in Ikwuano, the decampees, led by; Mr. Obioma Sunday- APC Chairman of Oboro ward 4; Michael Chibuzo-APC Chairman Of Ugwuegbu Ward; Chinedu Ariwodo of Oboro ward 3; Sunday Ehilinne – APGA Chairman of Ibere ward 2; Emeka Ikeagu- Councillor representing Ibere Ward 4 under APGA; Abraham Kingsley of Usaka Ward; Elder .
Nathaniel Orji – APC Chairman of Oboro ward 4, Prince K. C. Igbikwe – APGA LGA’s Chairman in Ikwuano and others unanimously explained that they decided to return to the PDP because of the explicit confidence they have on the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and the PDP in taking the state to a greater height. The former decampees extolled the Governor for embarking on massive infrastructural development across the state, numerous empowerment of the people and pledged their total loyalty to the Governor and commitment to the vision of the PDP in winning all future elective position in the state.
Receiving the decampees, the state PDP Chairman,Rt.Hon. Dr.Alwell Asiforo Okere represented by the Abia Central Zonal PDP Chairman, Chief Chukwudi Ezebuiro flanked by his Abia North Zonal counterpart, Elder Amah Abraham, the PDP State Publicity Secretary,Chief Fabian Nwankwo and the state PDP Woman Leader, Lolo Christy Emelike commended the decampees for their mature decision in returning to the PDP, adding that the umbrella party is large enough to accommodate all interests of its members and directed the Ikwuano LGA PDP Chairman to issue PDP Membership Cards to the newly received members and assured them of equal right like other members of the PDP.
Contributing,the National Organizing Secretary of the PDP, Col.Austin Akobundu represented by his personal assistant,the member representing Ikwuano State Constituency,Hon Stanley Nwabuisi, the Executive Chairman of Ikwuano LGA,Chief Stephen Mpamugo, the Community Woman leader of Amawom Community,Mrs.Ngozi Ogbo also commended the decampees for dumping their former political parties for the PDP and urged the member representing Umuahia/ Ikwuano federal constituency,Hon.Sam Onuigbo to set aside any act of disagreement, disrespect and shame by returning to the PDP he has contributed in building it to the present status.
Highlight of the event were; physical destruction of their former parties’ membership cards by the decampees and the presentation of PDP flags to the defectors..
