The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has insisted on going ahead with its proposed strike action on Monday, and has given the Federal Government until 12 midnight to reverse the recent increase in electricity tariff and the removal of petrol subsidy.
The NLC took the decision, following a closed-door meeting with Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives on Sunday.
Gbajabiamila had met with representatives of NLC at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, in an attempt to mediate between the Organised Labour and the federal government, with the former insisting on an industrial action.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Ayuba Wabba, the NLC President, said the proposed strike by the union will proceed unless the government addresses the issues.
Reacting to the court order restraining the NLC from downing tools, Wabba said the organisation has not been served with the order and cannot speak on it.
He, however, noted that there is a judgement of a Federal High Court stopping the increase of electricity tariff, which the federal government has refused to obey.
According to him, the proposed strike will only fail to hold if the govt makes a u-turn before 12 midnight on Sunday.
