Chief Reagan Ufomba, is a Harvard trained multi-disciplinary scholar. Born on 27th day of May 1962 in Umuogele Ntigha in Isiala Ngwa North LGA of Abia State. He studied Global Negotiation, law, Secretarial Studies, Public Administration, Peace and Conflict Resolution, History and International Relations. He is a shrewd businessman, industrialist, philanthropist, financial strategist and President/Chief Executive Officer, Reagan Group of Companies. A devout Christian and father of five, who holds several prestigious public and private sector awards and titles to his credit.
He grew the company from scratch in 1986 to a multi-billion Naira trading, construction, haulage, manufacturing, import and export group of companies decades after, dealing on rice, cement, poultry farm, laundry services; Sim-Card backup, rapid Hiv test-kit, cordless mobile phones, “Reagan brand” canvas shoes, chalk, soap, laptops, second hand clothing, ultra-medical laboratory services, asphalt rubber, oil and Gas.
The company delved into oil and gas in 2003, majoring in bulk purchase of Low Pour Fuel Oil – LPFO from both Portharcourt and Kaduna refineries. Major off-takers include Ashaka Cem, Newbisco, Wahum and several other wholesale retailers and consumers.
Reagan Renaissance Limited (RRL) was a civil-works sub-contractor and community negotiator in the multi-million dollar Ohiya Umuahia – Alaoji 132KV Transmission Electrification Project in Abia State in 2003. This was after a dint with the Abia State government as a Special Assistant on Integrated Rural Development in 1999. He also represented Abia State Government in the National Poverty Eradication Program – NAPEP in 2001; and served as a board member of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State. He was a member of the IBB Presidential think-tank, and Chairman, South East Zone of the project.
Following his voluntary resignation from government, and return to active business, he successfully led the company in the negotiation and acquisition of Tiger Cement Plant in 2005, now known as the Reagan Cement Plant. He was a prominent trading partner with Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s Dangote Industries Limited for several years. It is to his credit that the company subsequently won a presidential import license of 500,000 metric tons on cement in 2008, and another two million metric tons manufacturing license in 2009. Under him, the company has won various Best Product/Corporate brand awards (on cement) in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
As a result of his sterling performance in the cement sector, was appointed National Secretary of Cement Producers Association of Nigeria – CEPAN in 2008; successfully negotiating multi-billion Naira loan facilities with various local and international banks, including the Bank of Industry and HSBC of Switzerland. It was under him that the multi-billion naira cement technology fund was created. He was later appointed a member of the Federal Government National Economic Management team on Cement sector in 2009. And subsequently, nominated a member of National Policy Formulation committee on cement Sector in 2009 under the then Minister of Finance and that of Commerce and Industry, now Trade and Investment.
He led the company through various strategic financial, technical and trade partnerships with several foreign companies viz Gateway Cement USA, Laxmi Engineers of India, Shanghai Minggong of China, Henan Daswell of China, HC Trading of Turkey, and the world’s largest cement factory Medcem Global of Turkey, among others.
Under her corporate social responsibility, he took over, rehabilitated and managed the moribund Ngwa Women Hospital, where he continued to offer free medical scheme and child birth. Perhaps, the most laudable was the institution of scholarship and bursary schemes of N30,000 each for 300 tertiary students annually.
