Ariaria International Market Chairman, Chief Chijioke Michael Amaku and his Market Committee has embarked on the opening up of the drainages in and around the market to enhance easy flow of water, especially the popular A – line which over the years has had the perennial problem of flooding.

Recall that the past administation in the state, as part of measures to ensure sustained regular storm water evacuation from the low lying Ifeobara/Ariaria axis of Aba, directed Ariaria International Market Committee to immediately take over the task of regular pumping of water out from Ifeobara pond.

Our reporter who visited Ariaria international market saw the level of work going – on along A – line, described as impressive and the first of it’s kind in the history of the market.

A source also told www.newsmirrorng.com that the committee has made arrangement for the replacement of the vandalized cables linked to the two power generating sets, electricity transformer and the water pump, to assist the Committee to carry out the duty of making the market conducive for both traders and their teeming customers

The committee is to also ensure the security of all government assets at the Ifeobara pond and undertake regular storm water pumping to ensure protection of the market from negative effects of heavy rains.

A trader in the market, Mr. Ebuka told www.newsmirriorng.com that the Market Leadership is proactive and that they are very concerned about the welfare of traders in the market and wish that the new Government of Dr. Alex Otti will support the people oriented leadership.

” I am a trader here, i don’t know the Chairman in person, but i can only say the truth”, ” The leaders of Ariaria International Market Aba are God sent. It will be my sincere wish that they shall be encouraged because it will be beneficial to both the traders, customers and Abia state Government, he added”.

The effort of www.newsmirrorng.com to speak to the Chairman, Chief Amaku failed as a member of the committee said the Chairman was busy, directing workers that are disilting the drainage.
