Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, former Regional Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), City of David, Region 20, and his wife, Dr. Siju Iluyomade, have reportedly resigned from their pastoral roles. The resignation comes amid pressure for them to establish their own ministry following Pastor Iluyomade’s refusal to serve a three-month suspension and transfer to another parish in Ebute Meta.

Pastor Iluyomade’s transfer and subsequent suspension were linked to the controversy surrounding his wife’s birthday celebration, which coincided with the church’s mourning period for the former CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe. Despite the resignation, a new minister, Pastor Charles Kpandei, has already taken over as the senior pastor of Region 20 as of Sunday, June 9, 2024.

A source close to the matter revealed in an interview with Vanguard that Pastor Iluyomade’s resignation letter has not yet been accepted by the RCCG governing council. “Since he is serving a suspension, the resignation has not been accepted by the governing council. The council will not meet until August when the suspension will lapse. The church has an exit procedure for pastors of his calibre,” the source stated.

The Apapa Family, an RCCG arm involved in collaboration with government and public sector institutions for various charity projects, is reportedly encouraging Pastor Iluyomade to set up his ministry. This group is known for its involvement in healthcare, education, infrastructure, citizens’ welfare, and capacity-building initiatives.

The source further commented on the situation, drawing a parallel with Pastor Ituah Ighodalo’s resignation from RCCG to establish his ministry: “Whether it is for self-gains and desires just the way they influenced Pastor Ituah Ighodalo to resign from the RCCG and establish their ministries, only God knows.”
