Late DIG Joseph Egbunike was having a meal in his office on Tuesday when a fishbone hooked in his throat, and efforts to remove it proved abortive.
He was reportedly rushed to the hospital, where doctors removed the alleged bone through surgery.
The hospital said that the officer felt better after the surgery and was discharged to go home.
A few minutes after returning home, he started feeling uncomfortable again and had to be returned to the hospital, that is where he eventually died.”
Until his death, Egbunike was in charge of the highest investigating arm of the Nigeria Police.
The late DIG who was an Accountant and a Lawyer, was the highest ranking police officer from the South East.
