Amidst bitter politicking, the Abia State House of Assembly, on Tuesday voted to impeach its Speaker, Hon. Chinedum Orji.

Although details of the impeachment remains sketchy, but a ranking member of the House from Abia North Senatorial District who preferred not to be named confirmed the action of the lawmakers to newsmirrorng.com on Tuesday morning.

We gathered that Chukwudi Apugo (Umuahia East), moved the motion of impeachment and was seconded by Hon. Okey Igwe ( PDP, Umunneochi).

Mr Orji, representing Umuahia Central State Constituency, lost February 25 national assembly poll for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency.

Mr Orji, son of the former Governor Theodore Orji, lost to the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Obi Aguocha.

Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Uma Oke, said the LP candidate polled 48,199 votes to defeat Mr Orji of the PDP, who scored 35,196.

He said Ogbonnaya Obilor of APC had 4,042 votes, while Ogbonna Abariukwu of APGA got 2,758.

Attempts to reach Mr Orji on phone to react to the impeachment by the lawmakers prove abortive.

However, in what is seem as a swift reaction to the purported impeachment of Abia state House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, he convened the house plenary and subsequently suspended indefinitely, the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu who earlier presided over the alleged impeachment of the Speaker.

Also suspended are : Hon. Okey Igwe, Member Representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon Obinna Ichita of Aba South, Hon Chukwu Chijioke of Bende North, Hon Thomas Nkoro of Ukwa East, Hon Chukwudi Apugo of Umuahia East,Rt Hon Chikwendu Kalu, Rt Hon Kennedy Njoku.

In a motion moved by the member representing Umuahia South State Constituency Hon Barr Jerry Uzosike and Seconded by Hon Ginger Onwusibe, the House frowned at the activities of the members and suspended them for one month without pay.

Meanwhile, Abia State House of Assembly has elected the member, representing Ohafia North, Hon. Mandela Obasi as new Deputy Speaker, while Hon. Emeka Okorafor is the new Minority Leader.

As at the time of filling this report, there is no official reaction by the out going Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu on the war of attrition going on in the state Assembly.
