The Deputy General Manager of Aba State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) Chief Rowland Nwakanma has called on Aba residents to embibe the culture of bagging their waste before carrying them to any waste collection points in the city. The ASEPA boss made the call while addressing the Press in his office after monitoring the State wide environmental sanitation exercise in Aba during the last exercise.

According to Chief Nwakanma, “bagging of refuse is the best way to handle our household waste as there are many benefits from such habit. It helps to reduce the spread of bacteria and other unhealthy micro organism, it also saves time in waste management and helps ASEPA workers deliver more efficiently as it saves man hour hitherto spent on packing waste into the truck”.

He went on to charge the waste managers in charge of the different zones recently created to take the door – to – door waste collection mandate serious and devise means to encourage bagging of waste by the citizens.

Chief Nwakanma was visibly pleased with the strategy implored by the Aba South waste Manager Chief Ota Odim, whom he saw giving out exercise books to the residents of Ngwa road that bagged their waste as a way of rewarding them for doing the right thing and to encourage others to emulate them. Chief Nwakanma commended the Aba South team for their effort so far in getting into areas like Arondizuogu, Ibere, Owerri road, Ibadan street etc to collect waste from street to street and charged them to increase the tempo and make sure they sustain it as none of the teams has any reason not to deliver on the Governor’s mandate of clean and green Aba.
