As the activities towards the 2023 general elections hots up, a Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, an economist and a former Director-General, National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Chuku Wachuku, has declared he is the best man to represent Abia Central Senatorial Zone at the red chambers, adding that, he is running to create family economic empowerment beyond rhetorics.

The Former Pro- Chancellor, Abia State University, Uturu, who made his intention known on Friday in his country home, Nbawsi, Isiala Ngwa LGA, Abia State during his interraction with media men said one who aspires to be a Senator, must have the requisite qualification cum vast experience as well as driven by the burning desire to serve the people and not asked to represent the people by someone, somewhere.

Sir Wachuku, popularly called URICINDERE NDI NGWA, a former Chairman, Governing Council Abia State Polytechnic, and Abia State University respectively stated that, he wants to represent the people of Abia Central, because of his vast experience as an economist, adding that he has been in several management positions which are not elected, but appointed positions based on merit.

The Former National President, Nigeria Association of Small and Media Scale Industrialists, stressed the need for those with ambitions to state clearly what they have for the people.

He boasted that he introduced empowerment in Nigeria, through National Directorate of Employment ( NDE), which introduced skills acquisition programmes and is ready to recreate the ” Family Economic Empowerment ” which tenets dealt more on empowering the family outside the usual empowerment of constituents with Keke Napep among others.

He revealed that as an expert in managing the economy, he has always believed that if the family is empowered, more people will stand on their own and be employers of labour, maintaining that in those positions, he held sway, he identified indices that propel the economy and involved skilled individuals who assisted in driving the ideology.

The ex-National President, Agriculture and Industrial Entrepreneurs of Nigeria (AIEN), said if given the opportunity to represent Abia Central in the Senate, he will allow the private sector to drive the economy as the government does not create jobs but private sector does, emphasizing that he will come up with Abia Central Economic Zone, one industry per LG, industrial clusters in every Ward so as to create massive jobs for the people.

He disclosed his plans to encourage his constituents through skills acquisition programmes, insisting that it will lead to massive employment which is also part of entrepreneurial development, capable of putting smiles on the faces of many if well harnessed, adding that he is running to create wealth or his constituents not gifts.

Sir Wachuku who also used the opportunity to reel out his plans for the youth in Abia Central, identified youth as key agents in the governance of every country, said that he is passionate about transferring power to the next generation of leaders and will, from day one, encourage and develop people that will take over from him just as he will create policies that will give room for the younger to be properly groomed in the act of governance.

The National Merit Award Winner for Excellence, recalled that Umunneato has always provided the winning votes for any Senator from Abia Central, pointing out that part of the decadence he has seen in the polity is the idea of representatives doing constituency projects themselves, reiterating that if elected as Senator, he will ensure and insist that Constituency projects be done by the constituents themselves and not the other way round.

He also announced that if given the opportunity, he will provide a Constituency office in every LG in Abia Central which will guarantee regular interface with his constituents as he is poised to confront power.

The National Productivity Merit Award Winner said he has clear cut policies for his constituents. He revealed that the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has about N220m for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises as well as N250b for agriculture, noting that what is needed is to apply for these opportunities and tap into the various benefits associated with it, maintaining that he will assist his constituents access such opportunities if allowed to run as Senator for Abia Central.

He advised the people of Umunneato not to be myopic about power, charging them not to allow anyone deceive them by setting a bad precedence that they must sacrifice the Senatorial seat to become Governor of the State.

Wachuku however, urged delegates to vote according to their conscience during the primaries of the party.
