Abia 2023: Ikonne harps on inclusive government

Since his emergence as the Abia State governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Prof Uche Ikonne has been receiving stakeholders, leaders and members of the PDP from all the 17 Local Government Areas. In his messages, Ikonne has been pledging to run an inclusive government when elected in 2023. He has made it clear that his administration would embrace all shades opinion regardless of class, religion, party affiliation or geo – political zone.

The former Abia State University vice chancellor has also been playing host to various market unions and group executives who are thronging in their numbers to identify with him. They have been trouping to his Umuahia and Agburuike Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North residence to assure the PDP candidate of their support in next year’s general elections.

Like others before them, the people of Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area that came on a solidarity visit assured Ikonne of their support and votes. The leader of the delegation and chairman of Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Comrade Ike Anyatonwu, pledged on behalf of the LGA to continue in their support and solidarity with the umbrella party and its candidates in the 2023 general elections, particularly Ikonne.

Other notable party leaders in the delegation were the PDP candidate for Isiala Ngwa North/Federal Constituency, Prof ACB Agbazuere and Abia State Commissioner of Housing and Isiala Ngwa South Coordinator of Uche Ndi Abia Campaign Organisation, Elder Chinagorom Nwankpa.

Their message to the PDP governorship candidate was simple: “we are solidly behind you and we will vote for you in the forthcoming election”.

The visit provided the PDP governorship candidate the opportunity to reinstate his commitment to run an inclusive and participatory governance.

He said: “my dictum is participatory governance that will be all- embracing, to build strong institutions and not strong individuals, to empower based on the evidence of work done and not monkey de work baboon de chop”.

The indication is that Ikonne has promised to carry all Abians along as well as establishing an effective mechanism for reward system when he assumes office next year by the power of the electorate.

Without mincing words, Ikonne has made it clear that the interest of majority of Abians and residents in the state was uppermost in his schedule than the profit of a privileged few.

Indeed, Ikonne is the best Candidate for Abia Governorship, 2023.
