Residents and business people around Eke-Agu, the most popular axis in Abatete, a town in the heart of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State are still shivering from the shock of an ugly gun attack that left several people dead and three vehicles burnt to ashes.

According to eyewitnesses who pleaded anonymity for security reasons, the incident happened in the early evening of Tuesday, July 12, 2021, when gunmen riding in a truck pulled up at the junction, shot a man suspected to be a prominent indigine of a neighboring town, his security detail and torched their vehicles.

While reports of the incident is still sketchy, with most eyewitnesses admitting to have gone into hiding while the attacks were going on, some reports say that the assailants, after shooting the main target, left him in his Lexus 470 SUV and set both on fire.

The attackers were also said to have set their own truck ablaze along with that of the security detail guarding the prominent target, and left with another stolen vehicle.

As at the time of this report, it was not yet gathered the motive of the attack or if the assailants were actually targeting those killed, but reports of related incidents around some towns in Anambra State were also heard yesterday.

Though a forensic team from Anambra State Command of Nigeria Police Force arrived at the scene to take initial reports of the incident, no official statement as regards the attack has yet been released by public relations unit of the command as at the time of this report.
