Abia foremost philanthropist and the Founder, Ncheta Omerekpe Foundation, Chief Ncheta Elvis Omerekpe has described the Late Professor of Economic History, Prof. Anthony Iheukwumere Nwabughuogu as a wisdom filled intellectual, an academic colossus, a Father and Mentor.

Chief Omerekpe made this ascertion on tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Abia state University, Uturu during the Colloquium/ Book lunch, in honour of the late erudite academician and first class Professor of Economic History organised by the MJC Echeruo Faculty of Humanities, in conjunction with the Department of History and International Relations, Abia State University, Uturu.

” Late Prof. Anthony Nwabughuogu was humility personified, very disciplined, and a man of unbending intergrity.

He could be aptly said to be larger – than – life and an achiever par excellence”.

” Today I am proud to honour my former lecturer, in Abia state University, having studied History and International relations in this school, under his watch”, ” Despite his being denied the position of the Vice Chancellor some time in the past, he remained in the school to impact knowledge to the students” Chief Omerekpe added”,

In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Prof. Maxwell Ogbulu represented by Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Roseline Ndimele described the Late Prof. Nwabughuogu as a diligent, committed and a sound Academic, whose death will no doubt create a big vacuum to the family, church and his community.

Prof. Ogbulu stressed that, Abia state University will forever fondly remember his contributions in the development of the different areas he served.

Prof. C. A. Omenihu in his book review, chronicled the life and times of Late Prof. Anthony Nwabughuogu and applauded the organisers of the colloquium and Book launch, which was in recognition and appreciation of the administrative roles of the Late Emeritus Professor Nwabughuogu, in projecting academic development in the University, Abia State and Nigeria in general.

He recalled that the Late Professor Nwabughuogu served as Coordinator, School of Humanities; Dean Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences ; Director, Institute of Distance Education and Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 1995 to 1999.

He was also elected twice as representative of Senate and Congregation of the University Governing Council.

Prof. Omenihu acknowledged the intellectual contributions of Late Prof. Nwabughuogu as he wrote several academic textbooks and many articles in reputable journals in the continent of Africa, America and Europe with exceptional interest in socio – economic wellbeing and aimed at solving economic crisis in the world.

Late Prof. Nwabughuogu served as visiting Professor, Adjunct Professor and External Examiner to several universities and research institutions.

He adede that, Late Prof. Nwabughuogu will be remembered amongst others, for drawing operational curriculum for the National Orientation Institute.

He was appointed member of the accreditation team of the Nigerian Universities’ Commission and Member, Presidential Visitation Panel to the Federal University, Akure.

In the year, 2004 the Mbutu nta, Osisioma Ngwa born erudite scholar was a member of the Planning Committee, Ohaneze Ndi Igbo Abia State Education Summit.

Until his death, he was a member of the Abia State Elders Council.

As a traditionalist, Late Prof. Anthony Iheukwumere Nwabughuogu has many chieftaincy titles to his credit, including but not restricted to; Okosisi I of Nenu, Omeroha I of Ovokwu and Osisi Eji Ama Mba I of Mbutu Ukwu.

Recently, Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, conferred on him “Enyi Abia” (The highest Honour In Abia State)

Until his death, he was a member of the Historical Society of Nigeria; Fellow, Nigeria Institute of Sales Management; and Fellow of the Institute Industrial Administration, which conferred on him the award of the Educational Leadership in 2007.

He is listed in the “Who is Who” in Igbo land, 1997 even, while alive.

The highpoint of the event was the unveiling of the Book, by the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Ncheta Omerekpe with a handsome donation.
