The University of Nigeria Alumni Association has during its 105th NEC meeting in Umuahia conferred an award of honor on the Program Manager, Abia State Agricultural Development Program Chief Israel Amanze in recognition of his contributions to food production and service to humanity.

Speaking shortly after receiving the award ,the Program Manager Abia ADP Chief Israel Amanze said he is overwhelmed with joy on the honor done him by the UNN Alumni Association describing UNN as a noble, prestigious and one of the premier universities in Nigeria and made it known that the award will spur him to do more in agriculture and service to humanity.
Chief Amanze thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and Senator T.A. Orji for giving him the opportunity to serve the state in various capacities and dedicated the award to God for his goodness upon him and to his family for their unflinching support which enabled him to excel in life.


The Abia ADP Program Manager use the occasion to advised Abians to embrace agriculture in order to ensure food security adding that agriculture remains the only way out of hunger, food crisis and food insecurity bedeviling the country .
In his speech, the chairman on the occasion and Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Onuoha Ogwe commended the UNN Alumni Association for being good Ambassadors of their Alma Mater and stressed the need for old hands to properly groom the new ones to ensure good succession in the Association.
In their separate speeches, the National President of UNN Alumni Association Sir Ben Okoronkwo and the Umuahia branch chairman of the Association Chief Franklin Orji said since the inception of the Association 56 years ago , they have made significant contribution to the growth of their alma mater and the society in general and congratulated the awardees and all who graced the occasion.


Presenting a paper on the topic” disruptions in the academic calendar in the Nigerian educational system:a critical review of the imperatives for restoring qualitative education in Nigeria ” the guest speaker Vice Chancellor MOUAU Professor M.O.Iwe named poor funding, insecurity, endermic corruption, decayed infrastructure among others as major challenges facing educational system in Nigeria.


It could be recalled that the Program Manager Abia ADP, Chief Israel Amanze had received similar awards from the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the Rotary Club International in recognition of his giant strides in the agricultural sector .


The UNN Alumni Association also presented a Corporate award to the Abia State Agricultural Development Program (ADP) for their contributions in agricultural production and service to humanity as well as other deserving individuals and corporate bodies while many dignitaries including the Chairman ABSIEC, Professor Mkpa Agu Mkpa attended the ceremony.
