In the meeting of the State Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, Abia State Chapter, today, the 25th day of June, 2021, the party frowns at the various centrifugal tendencies by some groups in the State in recent times that is capable of causing disaffection in the party.

As a result, there have been communiques and press releases after meetings by these groups staking claims to the governorship seat of Abia State in 2023.

While the rights to association and freedom of speech and expression are constitutionally guaranteed, the party believes that such tendencies, communiques and press releases are premature and capable of distracting the party from its resolve to build a solid, all- inclusive party structure capable of winning the 2023 general elections.

These, also have the tendency of distracting our hardworking Governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, from focusing on the gigantic and monumental projects he is executing in the State.

In view of the foregoing, the Abia State PDP SWC, on behalf of the members of our party, therefore, resolves as follows:

1.That we hereby, pass a vote of implicit Confidence in the Governor, and urge him not to be distracted by these ill-advised meetings and decisions taken thereat.

2.That we direct all our officers at all levels, but particularly at the state level, to desist from attending factional or sectional meetings aimed at the zoning of the 2023 governorship or any other position as the case may be in the state.
3.That the party officers, particularly at the state level, should not sign any decision, communique or press release issued at any of such meetings.

4. That the party shall henceforth sanction any officer at any level who signs any such communique or press release.

5.That we further direct all our members to shun any act capable of hitting up the political atmosphere of the state.

6.That the PDP Abia State is at the stage of consolidating and expanding the party base in order to sustain the growth of our party in the state.

7.Finally, we request that our stakeholders and party faithful should always liaise with the State secretariat of our party, for information to enable them key into the party programs, decisions and calendar from time to time for the interest of the party.
